Pregnant Duchess Kate Officially Pregnant Again!
Turns out all of those rumors we have been hearing about are actually true. Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their second baby. The news comes less than 14 months after the birth of their son Prince George, who was born on July 22 last year.
So, how was this important news announced? Twitter, of course. According to a tweet from the royal tweeter, “The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news that Their Royal Highnesses are expecting their second child.” So exciting!
The pregnancy/miscarriage/pregnancy rumors have been circulating for weeks, possibly even months around Kate Middleton, so it was very exciting when Kensington Palace finally confirmed the news. A spokeswoman for Kensington Palace revealed that while the Duchess was not revealing her due date at this time, she was not yet at the 12 week mark of her pregnancy.
The entire country is now in celebration of this “spare heir” news. This new baby will be fourth in line to the throne, after Prince Charles, then Prince William, then Prince George. Prince Harry will move down to fifth in line to the throne.
Although the occasion is very happy, it is not without some struggles for the Duchess. Kate is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, the same acute morning sickness that plagued her through her pregnancy with Prince George. She was hospitalized early in her first pregnancy because of the condition, which can cause severe nausea, vomiting and dehydration.
A spokeswoman for Kensington Palace said that the couple decided to announce their pregnancy now, because people were starting to wonder about the Duchess not making it to all of her engagements due to her morning sickness. For example, she was supposed to attend a dedication at Oxford University last week, but had to miss it due to her illness.
At the Oxford University dedication, Prince William spoke out about the recently announced news. “She’s feeling okay, thanks. It’s been a tricky few days — a week or so — but obviously we’re basically thrilled. It’s great news, early days,” Prince William told reporters during a visit to Oxford University to open a new center dedicated to the study of China.
“But I’m hoping things settle down and she feels a bit better.” What a sweet hubby! One negative thing about the pregnancy, however. It will mean that Kate will have to skip her trip to Malta later this month, which was scheduled to be her first official overseas trip without her husband. At least she will be able to hang out at home and get to gather her strength.
