X Factor Alum Simone Battle Dead at 25
Simone Battle, an X Factor alum who appeared on the show in 2011, committed suicide Friday, September 5th at her apartment in Los Angeles. The up and coming singer was 25 years old and was on the verge of stardom here in the United States.
Simone was a finalist on “The X Factor” back in 2011, and was a member of G.R.L, a girls group created last year to replace The Pussycat Dolls. Simone and her four G.R.L bandmates were on their way to the top, and their fame was about to take off. G.R.L. collaborated with Pitbull earlier this year, and the group appeared on Good Morning America just last month.
Simone’s boyfriend was the last person to see her alive, and said that he had last spoke to her around 3:45 am on Friday. He found her hanging from a clothing rod inside her closet about four hours later. An autopsy conducted Sunday confirmed that the cause of death was in fact suicide.
Pitbull tweeted his condolences Saturday: “My heart and prayers go out to @GRLSimone: @grl and her family. RIP Dios la bendiga.” The G.R.L. Twitter account posted this message Saturday: “Words cannot express the depth of our loss. Simone’s incredible talent was only surpassed by the size of her heart.”
Simone was an incredibly talented singer who noted Whitney Houston as her inspiration to become a singer. She grew up in Los Angeles, singing in a church choir, studying ballet and tap, modeling and acting in television commercials before working an internship with a company associated with the Black Eyed Peas.
She studied music and songwriting at the University of Southern California before competing on “The X Factor,” where she reached the top 16. She was also interested in being an actress, and appeared in several films.
Some tabloids report that money problems could have been the cause of at least part of Simone’s depression. Some sources close to the singer apparently told authorities that Simone was concerned that her band had not yet hit it big in the USA, even though they were enjoying some success overseas.
Simone was reportedly concerned that she would never get a big break here in the USA, and that she did have some financial struggles and worries. Seems like money was definitely bringing her down. So sad. Our condolences go out to Simone’s friends and family during this very difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
